Tungsten (also known as Wolfram) is a very hard, very dense metal used in a wide variety of applications.Tungsten alloys are available in various compositions combined with nickel and iron (non-magnetic) or copper and iron (magnetic) to create materials with unique properties for military, medical, commerical and industrial applications.

Applications
Aircraft counterbalances, weights and ballast - Large mass in a small space is required to balance and stabilize control surfaces which must operate at high speeds. The high strength of the material permits the part to be located for the most efficient weight effect and therefore uses the minimum amount of material.

Medical and Instrial Radiation shielding - Gamma radiation and X-rays are absorbed most effectively by high-density metals.Tungsten-based alloy have densities 50% greater than that of lead which together with good mechanical strength and excellent machinability make them ideal for shielding applications.

Die Cast tooling - Higher tensile strength and better thermal conductivity than tool steel helps to minimize thermal fatigue and improve tool life

Automotive - High weight / low volume properties make it ideal for ballast plates, crank shaft weights and other performance automotive components
